Shinas fort is located near the beach and it is rectangular shaped area surrounded by a wall and it has corner round shaped towers and a rectangular shaped tower on the northern east part. Mud and gravel was used to build it, where its length is 100 meters, width is 80 meters and its height is 8 meters. It is worth mentioning that it was built during the time of Nabhaniya regime in the year 650 AH/1229 AD with for defense, protection and dwelling, it also was used as a court and a school. This fortress is regarded to be one of the important fortresses in Batnah because it is the last governmental one of that regime in this area and it is the forefront part to repel all invaders.

The fort is composed of several rooms which were used for storing weapons used in wars as well as, storing food such as rice, dates and wheat. It also has rooms for guards and a place for discussing the affairs of the state, in addition to some rooms allocated to be a prison for accused with treason and other minor charges. There is also a mosque and a well in the middle of the fortress, as well as five cannons, four big and one small to strike enemies.

The fort consists of four towers, three of which are round shaped and the fourth is rectangular shaped on its northern east part. The height of the tower is nearly nine meters and its width is 4.5 meters, whereas the diameter of two of its round towers are nearly 11 meters on the south and the diameter of the north western tower is nearly 7 metres. The height of the walls of the south western tower is nearly 6 meters, whereas the north western and the rectangular towers on the north eastern part have walls with 4 meters height each.

The fort is surrounded by a long wall built by bricks and clay, within which there are some decorated openings, where the length of the western wall reaches to 81 meters and southern one is 54 meters. It seems that this fortress was rebuilt since 1224-1225 H/1810 AD when part of its structure was destroyed by the fires of cannons and after Motlek Elmatery and Mohamed Ben Ahmed Eltangy occupied the fortress, Elsayed Saiid and the British forces attacked Shinas from the sea on 31st of December and surrounded the fortress in the following day.

After Mohamed Ben Ahmed retreated by Motlek in Brimy, Elsayed Saiid forces broke into the fortress after destroying one of its sides and killed all of its occupants. When the British forces went back to their vessels, Motlek forces returned and occupied the fortress again. This problem wasn't solved until after Motlek camped in Elmasnaa and Elsayed Saiid visited him in his tent carrying to him a gift from his vessel. Only then Motlek returned to Brimy and dispatched his forces before returning to Riyad. It is worth mentioning Shenas was regarded important during the era of ancient trading when goods used to be transported overland to Sharka to avoid being taken over by the Indian Navy. The ministry of heritage and culture restored the fortress in 1984 and it was opened in 1986 during the reign of Sultan Kabus Ben Saiid the great may Allah keep him safe.
